MEUTE IS A FRENCH OPERA COMPANY

The collectif meute deploys various co-creation devices allowing as many people as possible to experience opera and musical performance as a space for personal and collective expression. It questions creative paths and performative forms so that they are spaces of freedom, co-construction and tools of cohesion. Various formats are thus explored: participatory operas, musical and theatrical impromptu, electro-lyrical performances and interactive and in situ installations, using new technologies in immersive sound and visual devices.

CREATIONS

FURIEUX-Lyrical participatory ritual

Furieux is a participatory electro opera for citizen choir inspired by the myth of Dionysus. Dionysus, to barely given birth, is slaughtered, dismembered, cooked, eaten, then recreated from the heart that its attackers forgot on the ground. Eternal stranger, he will seek land. Born twice, half-god, half-man, he will look for a community where to be recognized.

Throat cutting is an obstacle to the possibility of using one’s vocal cords to communicate, to tell oneself. TheN journey of the performers on stage is a reappropriation of this vocal organ to power, gargling after bellowing, using the word, then singing as a possibility of expression. A rebuilding of trust in others, of the ability to be around them and to gather acts throughout the work in exploring different systems of group organization, living together, community building. There search for an individual and collective identity, and the articulation between these two identities is at the heart of this human and artistic experience.

Mania, this magnetic state into which Dionysus plunges us to unite the bodies and take them into a flow of shared energy, pushes the individual to open a space. A potential common space, live temporarily. An environment in which to anchor ourselves and from which to write a path. An area of expression, where to exist and construct an intimate and universal story.

Furieux is a pagan ritual. Participants experience the enjoyment and excess of the group through body and voice.Live and electro music, lyrical voice and amplified decorative  elements, immerse the group in a sound panorama with hybrid musical aesthetics. The performers give substance to a multidisciplinary creation where dance, singing, theater, visual arts are called on stage. Dramaturgical writing, compositional process and stage writing are shared with a group made up of professional artists and amateur participants, united in one citizen choir during two weeks of co-creation.

Panoptique – A Motionless Journey, a prison without walls

Panoptique is an immersive electro-lyrical performance freely inspired by Franz Schubert’s cycle of 24 lieder. A rewrite resulting from a two-year journey in prison centers and psychiatric hospitals. The participants are at the same time the composers, the librettists and the protagonists. An opportunity to make the voices of those whose space has been reduced. The rediscovery of Wilhelm Müller’s text through their eyes allows us to travel through space and time. Echoing this distant narrator, their expert words question confinement today, this notion as intimate as it is societal.

(Eine) Winterreise is an opportunity to make the voices of those whose space has been reduced. In addition to the voices of the participants, there are those of five musicians, a lyrical voice, a piano, a flute, and electro-acoustic instruments. On stage, they take turns interpreting this flagship work of German romanticism, sometimes in its original version, sometimes by interpreting collective creations by mixing improvisations and their own rereading.

Beyond the walls, musicians and participants enter into dialogue, in an immersive stage system which offers audiences the opportunity to be both spectators and actors of what is happening on stage: the physical and mental confinement of a narrator who goes around in circles.
